Shillong Golf Course (club) is one of the oldest and best natural golf course in the world located at an altitude of around 5200 ft, is sometime equated with “Glen-eagle Course” in the United States because of its beauty and unique location.
A group of British Civil Service officers introduced golf to Shillong in 1898 by constructing a nine hole course at Laban.
The present 18 hole course was inaugurated in 1924 by Captain Jackson and C. K. Rhodes, who successfully preserved the natural beauty of the area while giving it an excellent layout. The course is set in an undulating valley covered with thick groves of pine and rhododendron trees.
The longest hole on the course is the 594 yards, sixth, which makes it an extremely trying hole, and also one of the longest in India. It enjoys the rare distinction of being one of the few natural golf courses in Asia.
