To most people, music festivals are a way of letting out steam and watch some of their beloved band and artists perform and sing along. As for this year’s 3rd edition, Shirock 2019 festival goers will witness two popular oldie rock acts – Nazareth and Extreme on 16th October and 19th October.
Last year, the American heavy metal band Queensrÿche closed down the festival with over 30,000 attendees. The tourism event – Shirui Lily Festival 2019 sponsored by the local government of Manipur, starts from Oct 16-19 and set to take place at Bakshi Ground, Ukhrul.
The Scottish hard rock band Nazareth will open the festival on the first day. The group is famous for their golden hits such as “Love Hurts” and “Where Are You Now”. The final day headliner Extreme is no doubt nothing lesser, their timeless acoustic ballad single “More Than Words”, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.
“The four-day annual festival is an free entry. And we are expecting to pull more tourists this year with these two classic rock bands line-up. Our intention is to associate this eco-cultural festival with younger audience to escalate the preservation of the endangered Shirui lily flowers, which is only found in the hills of Shirui here in Ukhrul”, the event co-manager Ramngachan Kazingmei Shimrei disclosed.
According to internal surveys, people love Shirui Lily Festival for its atmosphere, the fact that food and local beverages aren’t too expensive, and trekking to the marvelous Shirui Kashung Peak during the daylight, and enjoying an array of rock music concerts in the evenings. It’s a trip worth!
