The Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA) was established in 1980. The year 1984 was the major turning point for MMTA, as their first Adventure Course was launched in Manipur at Leimatak Khongnung in collaboration with the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling. Followed by the historic trek of 1985 covering the entire boundary of Manipur was done in a record time of 70 days by their energetic and dedicated volunteers of MMTA.
The government of Manipur has also recognized Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association as “The State Institute of Adventure” in the year 1992. Over the past years, MMTA has also conducted several adventures and eco-tourism activities such as: Adventure Course, Mountaineering Trekking, Scientific Expedition to the Nature, Himalayan Expedition, Everest Base Camp Trekking Expedition, Foreign Expedition, Rafting, waterman ship, Para sailing, Para-Gliding, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing in Natural and Artificial faces both.
MMTA has hosted the North East Zone Sports Climbing Competition at the Kangla Rock and Sports Climbing Wallat Minuthong in Imphal for eleven times.
