Manipur CM Biren Singh to inaugurate the third edition of Mao Flower Festival 2017

The annual Mao community’s flower viewing celebrations get bigger and better each year.

This Friday marks the opening of 2017 Mao Flower festival cum Cherry Blossom festival at Mao-gate, the northern most hill station of Manipur bordering Nagaland. It is a popular transit point for travellers and visitors.

Thousands of flower lovers from both the state of Manipur and Nagaland are expected to throned at the three-days event commencing on November 25. The event will also feature various competition categories – Best Flower Stall, Best Succulent, Best Indigenous Flower and many more.

According to sources, Manipur chief minister Biren Singh would grace the exhibitions as Chief Guest along with other dignitaries including Professor Dinabandhu Sahoo, the Director of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBDS), Imphal who initiated the idea of incorporating the flower festival with cherry blossom celebrations this year onwards.

The previous festival editions included art installations, cultural performances, honouring flower farmers and growers, and exhibition cum sales of flowering plants, vegetables and fruits. The last week of November is an ideal period, and peak bloom is the magical moment visitors want to be on hand for during the cherry blossom season.
