A Chemistry teacher and the Principal-in-charge of Kendriya Vidyalaya Tura has been arrested for allegedly raping two pupils in the former’s birthday celebration party. The arrests took place on Thursday afternoon after the victims narrated the incident to their family members and friends.

‘We were raped at the principal’s official quarters. It took place on the evening of September 3 after the school principal in charge Yogesh Joshi and his colleague Deepjyoti Das invited them over,’ the alleged victims told The Shillong Times.

Three girls and four boys from Class XII were invited to the principal’s birthday bash that evening during which the fruit juice served to the two girls was allegedly spiked with alcohol.

“When we were inside the house, the principal and the other teacher kept the two girls in one room while confining us in the other room. The room door was also bolted from the other end,” narrated one of the girl students who was also present at the spot on that fateful evening.

After the crime, the teachers threatened the pupils with dire consequences not to leak and tell no soul about the alleged incident.

Felt scared and embarrassed for their own reputation sake, the young two girls kept silent and went on with their daily lives. However, the teachers soon began blackmailing the two students for sexual favours with frequent calls and punishment during school hours for refusal to comply with their demands.

Eventually, unable to bear the humiliation and harassment, the two victims did the right thing and narrated the whole truth to everyone around them.

On Thursday, their classmates decided to take action and surrounded the accused school principal in his office during school hour and demanded answers. The accused principal reportedly called up his friend who was the CRPF commandant posted in Tura.

The other accused Deepjyoti Das quietly slipped away and fled the school. Little later, he gave up himself to the police after they have launched a statewide manhunt for him. Meanwhile, the Commandant of the 120 CRPF Bn based at Tura, R.K. Behara, has been also booked for his involvement in attempting to hide the accused.
