The Airport Authority of India (AAI) will soon take over Mizoram’s lone Lengpui Airport, the only state-owned airport in the country.
The airport, 15 km north of Aizawl, inaugurated in December 1998 by the then Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, needs huge financial support for overhaul and renovation.
“The AAI has, in principle, agreed to take over the Lengpui Airport from the Mizoram government. A MoU will be signed soon,” an official of the state civil aviation department said.
Currently, Air India and a private company operate flights between Kolkata, Guwahati and Lengpui airport.
