14th Dalai Lama entering India for permanent exile in 1959

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama entering India via Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh on 30 March 1959, after he and his retinue fled Tibet with the help of the CIA’s Special Activities Division at the outset of the 1959 Tibetan uprising. He began a permanent exile in India, settling at Dharamsala in Himachal Pradesh.
