Young Footballer from Meghalaya set to train in Germany

13-year-old boy Badonlang Rapsang, a Royal Wahingdoh FC’s youth academy product hailing from Ri-Bhoi, Badonlang has been chosen to undergo training for six years at German club TSG Hoffenheim`s youth academy.

The young talent was scouted by the former I-League football club based in Shillong while representing his school MeECL Secondary School, Ri-Bhoi at the Under-14 Subroto Cup Tournament and was then immediately signed up in 2015. The teen was picked after a selection trial initiated by the Tata Trust in association with TSG Hoffenheim at Polo Ground in Shillong recently.

The son of a truck driver, Rapsang, will fly to Germany in the first week of September to begin his training at the Bundesliga football league club – TSG Hoffenheim FC located at Sinsheim. Bundesliga is Germany’s top professional football league and the highest average stadium attendance worldwide.

“After completing my training stint of six years at Hoffenheim, I would like to return back home and become a professional footballer here and play at the highest level,” The Shillong Times quoted him disclosing his dreams. Apart from Rapsang, several other young footballers from the Northeast region have also been awarded the scholarship to train in Germany.
