The Kut Festival 2015, an annual post harvest festival of the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community of Manipur was rolled out at 1st MR Parade Ground, Imphal on November 1.
Unlike previous editions, this year the state level event is not the grandest of affairs. The popular beauty pageant of Miss Kut was also scrapped off from its charisma schedule that usually attracts thousands of people from all over the state each year.
The reason not to host the biggest beauty contest of the state this time, as announced by the festival organising team – State Level Kut Committee last month, is cinched to the rigmarole of paying respect and homage to the tribal martyrs of the recent social upheaval in Churachandpur.
Nevertheless, the extra attractions of cultural dance and song performances did circumnavigated the spirit of jollification in its own memorable gestures. Kut is considered the biggest traditional festival among the Kuki-Chin-Mizo ethnic groups of Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Myanmar.
