SpiceJet has started commencing two new air routes for its fleet in the Northeast region on Monday.
The fourth largest Indian airline has added Aizawl and Silchar to its 39 domestic destinations within India. Earlier, the only Northeast destinations where the low-cost carrier operates were from Guwahati and Agartala.
In his inaugural speech, “These new flights will help boost regional air connectivity in the Northeast India and my government is also preparing a blueprint to make Guwahati a hub of domestic and international air services,” Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said.
According to the office of Director General for Civil Aviation, Domestic carriers will operate up to 21 per cent more flights during winter months, compared to the same period last year, with 13,744 operated domestic flights.
The winter schedules for airlines starts from the end of October and continue till the last week of March the following year.
