Wangala dance troupe has been invited to perform at the opening ceremony of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) on October 1 in Guwahati, home venue for NorthEast United FC.
The traditional dance group from the village of Damas in North Garo Hills, Meghalaya will take part in the fanfare of the Southeast Asia’s biggest football league kick-off ceremony at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Sarusajai, with a capacity of 30,000 seats and the glitz will be aired on Star Sports network at 6 PM IST (12.30 GMT).
Top notch Bollywood stars including Alia Bhatt, Jacqueline Fernandes and Varun Dhawan will be leading acts in the ceremony of ISL’s Season 3. They will be supported by over other 500 performers and artists to give football fans the much-needed nostalgia and colourful fuzz.
The North East region of India have established itself as the emerging football powerhouse in the country. Many talents from the region has been playing in the ISL, the I-League, and the Indian national sides.
“I am confident the grand opening ceremony will draw the world’s attention to the potential of NorthEast region and I hope this encourages more talented youth to take up football professionally,” John Abraham, NorthEast United FC owner, and host of the opening ceremony said.
DYF Wangala troupe was also performed during the opening act of the South Asian Games 2015 held in the cities of Guwahati and Shillong. They have already showcased their traditional Wangala dance across the country including the state of Haryana, Punjab, Manipur, Nagaland, Kerela amongst others.
NEUFC will play the first match fixture post the opening ceremony against Kerala Blasters.
