Manipur’s leading film actress Bala Hijam who has appeared in over 30 films till date.
Manipur has ranked as the largest film maker amongst the eight North East States. According to E-pao.net, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has certified 43 Video Feature Films, 18 Video Short Films and one Celluloid feature film between the period; 1st January 2011 to 31st December 2011 from the state of Manipur.
In addition, Manipur bagged 57 National Film Awards – 27 for feature films and 30 for non-feature (short and documentary) films till 2014 – making Manipur the most awarded State amongst the eight NE States, said Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, a national film award winning filmmaker. Recently, I&B Ministry announced to set up the country’s 3rd National film & Television Institute (FTII) in one of the NE States soon.
During the 3rd Film Convention which is held at the Manipur Film Development Corporation Ltd (MFDC), Imphal on November 9, organised by Television and Cine Foundation of Manipur, the delegations comprising of various eminent personalities in the fields of films, scholastic, art & culture, theatre, performing arts, bureaucrats and General Public, took a resolution to urge the Govt of India for setting up of the 3rd Film & Television Institute of India (FTII) in Manipur, based on the history, achievements and future prospects.
