A United Kingdom (UK) based Armed Violence Monitoring group – Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) has chosen the renowned social activist and founder of Manipur Gun Surviors Network Binalakshmi Nepram, on its list of the Top 100: The most influential people in armed violence reduction.
Other famous personalities who made it to the same honorable list for their outstanding examples for a better world includes former UN Secy. General Kofi Annan, Dalia Lama, former US President Jimmy Carter, Nobel Laureate Jody Williams, George Clooney and Angelina Jolie etc.
In 2010, she received the Sean MacBride Peace Prize and the next following year, she won CNN-IBN’s Indian of the Year Award 2011(Public Service category).
AOAV has been working with communities affected by armed violence, removing the threat of weapons, reducing the risks that provoke violence and conflict, and supporting the recovery of victims and survivors through civil society partners and with governments since 1992.
