Arunachal Pradesh to get a National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) set up at Sagalee in Papum Pare district, 50 kms from the state capital Itanagar.
The Union ministry of Textiles has approved for the establishment of the second NIFT centre in the Northeast states. The first NIFT in the region was set up in Shillong.
During a meeting with Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in New Delhi recently, Union minister for textiles K.S. Rao has disclosed the approval to open a premier fashion designing management and technology institute to cater to the students from various parts of the Northeast region.
NIFT was founded in 1986, under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. The institute which is spread over fifteen centres across various cities, is a pioneer in envisioning and evolving fashion business education in the country.
